Process for Making Classroom Assignment Requests From Faculty with Disabilities and Temporary Impairments

Purpose

To ensure that faculty members have a standard, confidential process through which to make requests for classroom accommodations.

Procedure

1) The faculty member contacts the Office for Equal Opportunity Programs (OEOP) with the request for classroom assignment accommodation ideally 3 months or 12 weeks before the academic semester begins, even if the teaching load is not finalized.

2) The faculty member provides the OEOP with medical documentation of disability or temporary impairment, as well as the limitations the disability or temporary impairment presents.

3) With the faculty member’s permission, the OEOP will notify the Registrar of (a) the faculty member’s name, (b) the specific classroom accommodation requirements (such as location, lighting, or acoustics) and (c) the duration of the need for accommodation.
